✳️ $20k in credit card debt and the weight of financial anxiety.
✳️ A shift in frequency unlocking an inspired solution to refinance.
✳️ Cutting up the cards and making a cash-only pact for life.
✳️ A radical post-script: catching my own ego and correcting course.
Our windfall offered us only a brief respite. It wasn’t enough to dig us out of the huge financial hole that we’d dug. The true extent of what we’d done to ourselves, was diabolical. With four credit cards all maxed out to their limits. In total, we had accumulated around 20k in debt because we wanted everything yesterday. This financial pressure had me anchored around the lower half of the emotional guidance scale at stress, anxiety and worry.
In desperation, I continued on with my second month of writing good feeling lists in my book of positive aspects. I eventually felt the shift from an overwhelming place of constant worry to true moments of satisfaction.
It was during this time I experienced an epiphany relative to our finances. I wondered why I didn’t think of it before? But I know that I was too caught up in the problem to be a vibrational match to any immediate solution. The frequency of satisfaction unlocked a path forward that had been laid out by my Inner Being. A veil had been lifted.
Turns out we did.
My inspired plan worked flawlessly. Suddenly, we shifted from huge financial stress to total financial ease. I cannot begin to tell you the impact this had on our lives. A serious weight had been lifted. The noose was finally gone and we could begin to breathe again.
It was definitely a hard financial lesson to learn, but learn it we did. The instant gratification of buy now and pay later is not worth the cost of our inner peace. And so, it was a deeply cathartic moment, hovering over the bin, and cutting those credit cards into smithereens; A real ‘don’t let the fucking door hit you on the way out’ kinda moment!
My Husband and I made a cash-only pact for life. If we don’t have the dollars to pay, we walk away with our peace of mind intact. No. Matter. What. It’s that simple. And to this day, we have kept this promise to ourselves and it’s totally empowering.
My husband jokingly said once we paid out the remainder of the car loan, ‘Now we can get another new car.’
And my fierce response to him, “No bloody way!! The next car we buy, it’s cash only too.”
But I immediately contradicted that bold statement with the following thought, ‘And we will never have another new car.’
Because at that point, I still did not believe that that would ever be a possibility for us. Paying thousands of dollars in cash for a brand new vehicle. Nope. That was too far beyond my wildest dreams.
Not that it mattered. I didn’t really care for a new car. It was just the briefest of thoughts that I quickly dismissed. But the Universe didn’t. It hears even the slightest of requests - as I would later discover.
18 months from now, I was in for a big surprise.
Post-Script: The Radical Truth
I was all set to drop this story on the sovereign node but something felt off about it. And that’s when I realised I wasn’t being completely transparent and I brutally called **cough-a-bullshit-cough** on myself!
Here is the radical truth of our cash-only pact. We honoured it for 16 years. But four years ago, I leaned into the PayPal pay-in-4 system.
It doesn’t matter what kind of spin my ego tries to put on it, at the end of the day, it’s still “buy now-pay later.”
So I’ve caught myself red handed, right here, in front of you.
I drifted outside the line of the financial integrity that we were holding, so effective immediately, a course correction has been implemented.
