✳️ A small, fear-based mistake in a commercial kitchen.
✳️ Passing the blame to avoid the consequences.
✳️ An impossible, immediate culinary mirror 24 hours later.

My spiritual quest continues as I become a wife and mother. I requested a compassionate discharge from the military and found a job working nights as a kitchen-hand. This allowed me the freedom to be at home with my daughter throughout the day.
During this particular night at work, I sent out the wrong dessert. I accidentally grabbed the chocolate sauce to slather all over the mud cake, instead of the thicker chocolate ganache. But I sent it out anyway, hoping that the customer wouldn’t notice.
They did. They promptly sent the order back to the kitchen.
The manager wasn’t happy. I was so worried about losing my job that I failed to own up to my mistake, and another employee was reprimanded for it.
God! I felt so guilty. The word karma instantly came to mind. This was going to come back to bite me. And serve me right too!!
The next night I wasn’t working, so I ended up going out to dinner with my family to the club next door. I ordered steak, chips, and eggs with barbecue sauce on the side.
Our meals arrived and the first thing I did was dip my chip into my barbecue sauce and take a bite. It tasted strange. Really strange.
Like... chocolate sauce!!
Because it was chocolate sauce!!
WTF. I kid you not! Someone please cue the Twilight Zone music.
I could NOT believe it. All the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up. I shared my bizarre story with my other dinner companions, and it made the hairs on the back of their necks stand up too!
When I questioned the waitress about the mix-up with the sauces, she was horrified and apologised profusely for her mistake.
Believe me, this was no mistake.
Later on, I discovered that it wasn’t karma coming back to bite me either. More on that still to come.
To this day I have this personal motto: Do Not Lie! Or else chocolate sauce.
