✳️ A busy shift at a Woolworths delicatessen counter.
✳️ A child’s playful question.
✳️ Two voices speaking the exact same word in perfect unison.
✳️ “You’re in the wrong job now, aren’t you!!”
The next powerful teacher to appear upon my spiritual trail showed up at my workplace one unexpected day. I was working for the Woolworths supermarket chain in their delicatessen department.
A man with two young children in tow approached the counter. The children looked to be about two and four years old.
While I was busy getting the man’s order together, the little girl stood up on the railing so she could talk to me. She asked me, “I bet you don’t know what my name is?”
I wasn’t really listening. I just shook my head in response and kept doing the task at hand. She proceeded to tell me her name.
And then she asked, “I bet you don’t know what my little brother's name is?”
Now, for some unexplained reason, this time she had my undivided attention. I stopped what I was doing and looked at her. She was watching me with a big smile on her face.
Then, without thinking, I said to her, at the exact same time that she said to me…
“His name is David.”
The man looked at me in utter disbelief and remarked, “You’re in the wrong job now, aren’t you!!”
I was too gobsmacked myself to even reply. As they walked away, I questioned my sanity… Did that really just happen?
How on earth could I know that!?
More questions and no answers… Yet.
