Sometime around the age of twenty-seven, I was invited by a couple of army friends to join a multi-level marketing company called Amway. By signing up, I became a distributor and independent business owner selling their products.
My friends who showed me the business opportunity asked during our very first meeting: what were my all-important dreams for wanting to build a successful business?
I must confess that, at that point, I had no idea. To be honest, I don't think anyone had ever asked me that question before in my entire life.
Yet my upline friends really persisted with this line of questioning, because the company firmly believed that effective goal setting is the absolute key when it comes to turning one's dreams into reality. So, after a lot of deep conversation, I finally concluded that the most important thing to me was time and money freedom—to do what I want, when I want, with whoever I want.
This explicit permission to dream big—HUMONGOUSLY BIG—instantly lit a massive fire within me.
To show the universe that I was deadly serious about building my own mega-successful distributorship, I also signed up for their personal development subscriptions, referred to as book-of-the-month and tape-of-the-week.
Unfortunately, I did not achieve my goal of time and money freedom through that business model. I couldn't understand why things weren't working out for me despite all my effort, so I eventually gave up. Even though I'd read countless self-help books by that stage, I still hadn't discovered the missing piece I was looking for.
Except I did stumble upon another clue.
It happened while listening to a tape-of-the-week success story featuring an extremely successful crown diamond millionaire - Jerry Hicks. I really loved listening to his voice and his story.
I couldn't put my finger on it at the time, but there was something specific about his frequency that was really lighting up for me.
